Diabetic Foot Checks
Keeping your feet healthy is a vital part of managing diabetes. Changes in circulation and nerve function can increase the risk of wounds, infections and other complications, often without much warning. Our diabetic foot assessment is designed to detect problems early, protect your feet and reduce your long‑term risk.
To access this service, you simply book a standard first appointment – a full diabetic foot check is included as part of this consultation.
What Your Diabetic Foot Assessment Includes
During your appointment, your podiatrist will:
- Take a relevant medical and foot health history
- Ask about any current symptoms, footwear and previous foot problems
- Examine your skin, nails, joints and foot shape
We will then carry out a structured diabetic foot check, including:
- Vascular assessment
- Neurological assessment
Your Diabetic Foot Risk, Report and Advice
At the end of the assessment, you will:
- Be given a diabetic foot risk category (e.g. low, moderate or high risk)
- Receive clear explanations of what this means for your day‑to‑day foot care
- Be offered tailored advice and recommendations, which may include:
- How to check your feet safely at home
- Footwear advice
- How often you should have your feet reviewed
- Any further treatment or monitoring needed
We are happy to provide a full written report of your foot health and risk status for you, and—with your consent—to send a copy to your GP. This helps keep everyone involved in your diabetes care fully informed.
Our Specialist Diabetic Foot Expertise
Footman Podiatry proudly took on the contract from University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Trust (UHDB) in 2025 to provide the specialist podiatry team to the Queen’s Hospital Burton Multidisciplinary Diabetic Foot Clinic.
This specialist work involves our podiatrists working closely with endocrinology consultants, vascular consultants, orthotists and diabetes specialist nurses.
Together, we assess, diagnose and treat some of the most vulnerable and high‑risk diabetic foot and ankle problems, including:
- Foot ulcers
- Gangrene
- Vascular (circulation) problems
- Patients before and after amputation
This level of multidisciplinary experience underpins everything we do in our clinic.
