Ear Microsuction & Irrigation
Ear microsuction and irrigation is a safe and effective way of removing earwax and debris. At our clinic, this service is provided by a registered nurse in a clean, private setting.
We may recommend ear suctioning or irrigation if you have:
- Blocked ears or reduced hearing
- A feeling of fullness or pressure
- Itching or discomfort caused by wax build‑up
These procedures are usually part of a wider plan to improve your ear health, rather than a one‑off “quick fix”.
What to Expect at Your Appointment
Your nurse will:
- Review your medical history, ear symptoms and any previous ear problems
- Examine your ears with a lighted instrument to confirm if treatment is needed
- Explain the procedure, benefits, risks and alternatives in clear terms
If you go ahead with treatment, the nurse will:
- Use a gentle suction device (microsuction) and/or a controlled stream of warm water (irrigation) to remove wax
- Work carefully under direct vision to maximise safety and comfort
- Stop and check in with you regularly during the procedure
You may feel some temporary fullness, mild dizziness or sensitivity for a short time afterwards, which usually settles quickly.
Follow‑Up and Ongoing Care
Ear suctioning and irrigation work best alongside:
- Advice on safe ear care at home
- Guidance on avoiding cotton buds and other objects in the ear
- Follow‑up if you have recurring wax build‑up or ongoing symptoms
We will discuss all suitable options with you and agree together if ear suctioning or irrigation is the right choice for your needs.
