Targeted Solutions for Plantar Fasciitis and Heel Discomfort
Heel pain is one of the most common foot complaints and can affect one or both feet. It may feel sharp when you first stand up in the morning, ache after long periods on your feet, or be painful during or after sport.
How We Assess Heel Pain
At your appointment, your podiatrist will:
- Ask when and where the pain occurs (first steps, after rest, during sport, etc.)
- Examine your heel, arch and Achilles for tenderness, swelling or stiffness
- Assess foot posture, leg alignment and gait using our state‑of‑the‑art FootScan system
- Review your footwear, activity levels and medical history (including previous injuries or joint problems)
If needed, we may suggest further investigations via your GP or liaise with other healthcare professionals.

- Footwear advice to work alongside your orthoses
Steroid Injection (If Appropriate)
If heel pain is severe and significantly affecting daily life, we may discuss a corticosteroid injection into the affected area, explaining benefits, risks and recovery so you can decide confidently.
Ongoing Care and Rehabilitation
Because long‑standing heel pain can take time to settle, we may recommend:
- Follow‑up appointments to review progress and adjust treatment
- Gradual progression of exercises and activity to restore strength and resilience
- Longer‑term use of insoles or orthoses where biomechanics are a major factor
- Periodic reviews if you are very active, stand for long periods or have recurrent symptoms
Our goal is to relieve pain, restore comfortable movement and support your long‑term foot health.
