Sports Injuries

Rehabilitation and Performance Support for Athletes

Running, football, netball, gym training and other sports place high demands on your feet and legs. Overload, poor footwear, sudden changes in training or biomechanical issues can all contribute to injury.

Common sports‑related problems we see include:

  • Plantar fasciitis and heel pain
  • Achilles tendinopathy
  • Shin splints (medial tibial stress syndrome)
  • Stress reactions and stress fractures
  • Ankle sprains and instability
  • Forefoot pain and neuromas
  • Tendon and ligament strains around the foot and ankle
  • Knee pain related to foot mechanics

At your appointment, your podiatrist will:

  • Take a history of your pain/injury (onset, location, training changes, previous issues)
  • Ask about your sport, training load, surfaces, footwear and goals
  • Examine joints, muscles, tendons and ligaments in the foot, ankle and lower leg
  • Perform functional tests (e.g. balance, single‑leg stance, calf strength)
  • Assess foot posture, leg alignment and gait using our FootScan system
  • Review your current sports shoes and any insoles/orthoses

Treatment and Pain Relief

Our aim is to reduce pain, support healing and get you back to activity safely.

  • Taping/strapping and temporary padding/insoles to offload painful areas
  • Advice on ice/heat and over‑the‑counter pain relief (where appropriate)
  • Sport‑specific strengthening and stretching via Physitrack , with a tailored digital programme
  • Guidance on technique, frequency and progression
  • Insoles or custom orthoses to improve alignment and reduce stress on injured tissues
  • Fine‑tuning support for tendon overload, joint irritation and similar problems
  • Footwear advice to complement your orthoses and sport

If pain is severe and limiting daily life or sport, we may discuss a corticosteroid injection, explaining benefits, risks and recovery so you can decide confidently.

Ongoing Care and Performance Support

We may recommend:

  • Follow‑up visits to monitor healing and adjust your plan
  • Periodic review of orthoses as your strength, technique or training changes
  • Check‑ups around major training blocks or race/competition phases
  • Longer‑term strategies to reduce flare‑ups, such as conditioning and footwear review

Our goal is to help you recover fully, reduce re‑injury risk and support you in achieving your sporting goals.
